The runescape game rewards energy and interactivity. Comes ability, with an investment of time, and resources. Due to this, when you make a change that undermines that investment, most people get mad. Pointing fingers at"the elitist pvming neighborhood" and relating that to the decline of the runescape game is a complete misunderstanding of the way the runescape game functions.
Runescape is an accomplishment and reward. Rather than enjoying the runescape game for those accomplishments, you get angry or discourage people from opting for all those achievements.
I really don't think this issue is exclusive to EoC or even RS. For some short context, I played RS full time (Level 138, around a dozen 99s, near-top tier gear) around 7 decades back. I've seen a bit of discussion on it here, although I understand nothing about EoC. In my experience between the two matches, WoW is clunky, I have struggled more with getting a hang of the mechanisms to get it more than other games.
Yes, positioning and the ability rotation is simple. WoW has got the hunter course, (which I was recommended to start with) which is mostly just that. After that, you have a couple items to remember to keep toggled/aware of at all times: Aspects auto-cast toggles, trinket activations, tracking kinds. Several of them are set-it-and-forget-it from the start of a fight. But on top of that. Most courses have too many abilities to fit on the keys that your hands can physically reach, so you're usually stuck using clunky modifier keys (shift-1, ctrl Q) in order to efficiently utilize abilities.
The target system coupled with the implemented"confronting" mechanics. In other words, you need to be confronting an opponent to attack thembut you can be vertical towards themand also targeting an enemy does not snap your character's location towards them, you need to manually right click-hold-turn the camera whilst WASD positioning yourself at scope to target them. And of course, there's the cloudy attack range (for both melee and ranged attacks/spells). In my experience, the case the clunky mechanics for all are in the Lord Marrowgar battle. Bit hard to tell, but the boss has an absolutely ridiculously big hitbox, but your range isn't much larger than the hitbox, therefore the real"ring" around the boss you can hit in is fairly narrow.
