Career mode has undergone a visual makeover to align it with the rest of the game, but it plays largely the same as before. As the player, there are RPG-style rewards that can be earned depending on your conduct both on and off the field in addition to the ability to take on the form of real-life players and coaches , rather than designing your own completely from scratch.
What is less clear is the constant attempts of career mode to have you play less football. EA has already added many training elements that were a bit like admin, but now you also can choose to play highlights of games instead of all 90 minutes. For a football game this is a little confusing.
FIFA might not be the ideal game to show off the power of your console. But there are some neat features which help enhance that sense of realism just a small amount, whether it's how the nets in the goal make waves or the way sliding blocks can create the field to split up over the length of 90 minutes.
EA is determined to promote the impact of its HyperMotion2 motion-capture tech, which lets players' movement appear more natural. This year, it's been used for the women as well as men, and while the physical differences might be not as obvious as they are when playing with male players, it's another step to make women's sport feel less like a token inclusion.
