Less than two weeks ago, general manager Craig MacTavish stood by the Edmonton Oilers long-term plan. Coach Dallas Eakins is no longer part of it. With MacTavish expected to be behind the bench, the lowly Oilers will try to snap their latest losing streak and extend the Arizona Coyotes franchise-record home skid to 10 games tonight. Edmonton (7-19-5) is tied with Carolina at an NHL-low 19 points, losing 15 of 16 games while averaging only 1.7 goals. That stretch cost Eakins his job Monday, but not after MacTavish orchestrated a bizarre Dec. 5 press conference. MacTavish not only gave his former coach a vote of confidence, but also said: As painful as this process is, we feel that its a necessary step to get us to the next level. Getting outscored 13-5 during a four-game slide following Sundays 2-0 home loss to the New York Rangers was probably not what MacTavish considered as the next level. Now, the four-time Stanley Cup winner as a center for the Oilers and Rangers will return to the bench. He was Edmontons coach from 2000-09, reaching the playoffs three out of eight times while losing in the Stanley Cup final to the Hurricanes in 06. Hell remain in the position until Todd Nelson of Oklahoma City of the AHL is prepared to take over as interim coach. Im not here to absolve myself of accountability, MacTavish said. I had no real good reason to do this outside of performance. Thats the bottom line that were all judged by, the performance level of the hockey club and certainly the record. The Oilers struggles also come with a roster that features three top overall draft picks in forwards Taylor Hall (2010), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (2011) and Nail Yakupov (2012). Unlike earlier this month, MacTavish is now claiming he isnt ruling out trading one of his promising stars. I dont want to answer that question until I get a hands-on understanding of exactly whats happening in there (the locker room), he said. I want to have ample opportunity to have eyeball-to-eyeball conversations with the core group. Nugent-Hopkins leads the team with 19 points, while Hall has 18 and Yakupov eight. The teams defensive play has also been abysmal, with Edmonton giving up an average of 3.32 goals to rank only better than Dallas league-worst 3.52. The Oilers have been far worse in their last nine meetings with the Coyotes (10-16-4), surrendering 4.2 goals per game while going 1-7-1. Theyve dropped all three matchups this season while being scored upon 14 times, including a 5-2 home defeat Dec. 1. Jordan Eberle had a goal in that meeting after collecting six assists in the previous four. Hall assisted on Eberles tally, giving him 18 points in 15 career meetings. He has 12 of those in eight visits to Arizona, scoring two goals and assisting on another in a 7-4 loss there Oct. 15. The Coyotes are enduring major problems of their own since winning at Edmonton, getting outscored 22-8 during a season-high five-game skid (0-4-1). They dropped to 0-6-3 in their last nine at home with Saturdays 4-3 shootout defeat to Minnesota. Eventually things will turn our way, center Antoine Vermette said. The group effort was much better (Saturday). Vermette has been a rare bright spot lately, collecting four points in three games with a goal in each of the past two. He has an assist in three straight meetings with Edmonton. Arizona is 9-1-2 in its last 12 home games against the Oilers. http://www.ultraboostoutlet.it/ . The struggling New Orleans Pelicans were simply overmatched. Crawford hit seven 3s on his way to 24 points, and the Clippers beat the Pelicans 123-110 on Monday night. "We understand what we do well. If we all do what we do well, well make our team stronger," Crawford said. Ultra Boost Outlet Italia . In question is whether 26-year-old Matt Frattin will be on it. A a€?mediocrea€? training camp, as Carlyle put it earlier this week, has Frattin lingering nervously on the bubble at the end of the exhibition season, pushed out of a likely job by Brandon Kozun, the small, but feisty winger determined to make the NHL for the first time. Texas State enters the clash with a 5-1 record on the season, bringing with it a three-game win streak. The Bobcats have only dropped an 80-67 contest to Texas-San Antonio, and have since won three straight, which includes a, 81-65 thumping of Prairie View A&M last Saturday. Texas was sporting a 7-0 record on the season before the Longhorns headed to Lexington to tangle with the top-ranked Kentucky Wildcats. Texas dropped the contest, 63-51, which ended the teams unbeaten streak. These two in-state rivals have met on the court 48 times in their all-time series history. Texas enters this 49th clash with a 43-5 record over the Bobcats, with an 85-53 destruction over Texas State occurring last season in Austin. Texas State put on an offensive clinic against Prairie View A&M in the teams last outing. The Bobcats finished the game shooting an impeccable 60.4 percent from the floor, including a 62.5 percent touch in the first half that allowed the team to gain a seven-point halftime advantage - one the Bobcats would not surrender. Emani Gant tallied a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds to pace the team, while Jamarcus Weatherspoon netted 14 points and Wes Davis chipped in with 12 and four assists. Texas State took 30 free-throw attempts in the contest, and made 20 of them. When it comes to offense, Texas State hhas been a distribution of wealth model.dddddddddddd Only Gant (16.2 ppg) has a double-digit scoring average this season for the Bobcats, while Cameron Naylor (9.0 ppg) checks in as the next-closest to Gants scoring total. But the Bobcats are still averaging a respectable 69.2 ppg on 48.4 percent shooting, and are sporting a strong defensive effort that has surrendered just 53.8 ppg to opponents. Gant has been a beast on the boards as well, grabbing a team-best 8.2 rpg with another team high in steals (14). The Longhorns did a solid job defensively to limit the top-ranked team in the country to just 63 points on 37.5 percent shooting from the field, but it was a dismal offensive day for the visitors. Texas shot a mere 29.8 percent in the contest, and hit just 4-of-20 from 3-point range in the loss. Jonathan Holmes paced the offensive effort with 14 points, while Demarcus Holland netted 10 points with five assists in the defeat. The Longhorns did exercise their dominance on the glass by outrebounding Kentucky, 42-31. Much like Texas State, the Longhorns have shown they can be overpowering on both ends of the court. Texas is averaging 69.9 ppg this season, and is holding its opponents to 53.9 ppg on just 31.6 percent shooting. Isaiah Taylor owns a 15.0 ppg average, though the guard has been out since the teams third game with a broken left wrist. He wont be back anytime soon for the Longhorns. Holmes (12.9 ppg) and Myles Turner (11.4 ppg) have stepped it up in the scoring department in Taylors absence.
